묵상, 사회적 약자를 돌보라.  신 24:  19

네가 밭에서 곡식을 벨 때에 그 한 뭇을 밭에 잊어버렸거든 다시 가서 가져오지 말고 나그네와 고아와 과부를 위하여 남겨두라 그리하면 네 하나님 여호와께서 네 손으로 하는 모든 일에 복을 내리시리라

하나님은 사회적 약자, 가난한 자에 대하여 깊은 관심과 긍휼을 가지신다

APPLICATION

나그네. 고아 과부는 당시 사회에서 가장 취약한 사람들이었다. 하나님은 이들을 보호하는 것이 이스라엘 백성의 책임이라고 말씀하신다. 특별히 하나님은 이스라엘이 애굽에서 종되었던 과거를 기억하라고 하신다. 과거. 우리도 하나님의 긍휼과. 은혜 없이는 살 수 없던 존재였다. 하나님의 은혜를 받은 우리는 이제 다른 사람들에게도 자비를 베풀어야 한다. 우리 주변에는 도움이 필요한 사람들이 많이 있다. 우리의 것을 그들과 나누어야 한다.

오늘은 새벽부터. 저녁까지 매우 바쁜 일정이었다. 저녁에 지방회 모임을 마치고,  아래층으로 내려오니 남루한 옷차림의 히스패닉 성도님들이 유쓰룸에서 예배를 드린다. 그리고 부엌에서는 몇몇 권사님들이 저들의  식사준비를 하고 계셨다. 주일 7시 예배를 드리는 히스패닉 성도님들 대부분은 하루 노동자이다. 그들은 나그네이다, 신분이 확실하지 않은 자들도 많다.  홈레스들도 있다. 한마디로 사회적 약자이다.  하나님께서는 그들을 어떻게 생각하실까. 오늘 본문에서 주님이 이스라엘 백성들에게 불쌍히 여기라고 당부하시는 그런 사람들이 아닐까.  어쩌면 주일 저녁 7시 예배 오시는 히스패닉 성도님들 중에는 저녁식사가 먹고 싶어 교회오는 사람들도 있을 것이다. 이들을 매주 먹이고 대접하고 차량봉사하는 우리 성도님들, 너무 감사하다, 몹시 추웠던 새벽에도 어김없이 샌드위치와 커피를 마련해서 홈레스나 하루 노동자 히스패닉을 전도하기 위하여 나가시는 전도팀들, 자랑스럽다. 그  추위에도 집덦이 천막에서 지내는 분들이 있다. 우리 성도님들이  천막을 마련해 주었는데, 천막덕분에  아주 춥지는 않다고 하더란다.  그 분들은 정말 사회적 약자이다. 오늘 본문은  이런 자들을 돌보는 사역이 하나님의 뜻에 합당한  사역임을 말해준다.  가난하고 신분없는 약자들을 섬길 수 있는 기회를 교회에  주신 하나님깨 감사드린다.  나도 참여해야겠다.

하나님아버지, 우리 교회에 히스패닉 홈레스, 하루 노동자들 전도하고 섬기는 사역을 주셔서 감사합니다.  저들을 섬기는 모든 자원 봉사자들, 주께서 기억하시고 상주시기를 기도합니다. 이번 주, 상당한 추위가 온다고 하는데, 홈레스들 지키시고 보호하소서.  하나님의 자비와 긍휼이 전해지는 우리 교회 홈레스 사역되게 하옵소서. 하나님께만 영광돌리는 히스패닉 사역되게 하소서. 아멘

QT: Care for the Socially Vulnerable (Deuteronomy 24:19)
“When you are harvesting in your field and you overlook a sheaf, do not go back to get it. Leave it for the alien, the fatherless, and the widow, so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.”

OBSERVATION
Summary: God’s compassion for the poor, widows, orphans, and foreigners.
Who is God: God deeply cares for and has compassion for the socially vulnerable and the poor.

APPLICATION
Foreigners, orphans, and widows were the most vulnerable people in society at that time. God commands the Israelites to protect them, reminding them to remember their past—how they were once slaves in Egypt. In the past, we too were entirely dependent on God’s grace and mercy. As recipients of God’s grace, we must now extend mercy to others. There are many people around us in need. We must share what we have with them.

Today was an extremely busy day from early morning until evening. After finishing a district meeting in the evening, I went downstairs and saw Hispanic brothers and sisters in worn-out clothes worshiping in the youth room. In the kitchen, some deaconesses were preparing meals for them. Most of the Hispanic members who attend the 7 PM Sunday service are day laborers. They are foreigners, and many of them have uncertain legal status. Some are homeless. In other words, they are socially vulnerable. How does God see them? Aren’t they the very people He commands the Israelites to have compassion for in today’s passage? Some of them might even come to the Sunday evening service simply because they are hungry and need a meal. I am so grateful for our church members who faithfully serve them with meals, hospitality, and transportation every week. Our outreach team also goes out in the freezing dawn with sandwiches and coffee to evangelize homeless people and Hispanic day laborers. I am very appreciative of them. Some of these individuals live in tents, even in this bitter cold. Our church members have provided tents for them, and they say the tents help keep them from freezing. These people are truly among the most vulnerable in society. Today’s passage teaches us that serving them is in alignment with God’s will. I am grateful that God has given our church the opportunity to minister to the poor and those without status. I must also take part in this work.

Sin to Avoid: I repent for not actively participating in our church’s ministry to the Hispanic community.
Promise to Hold: God deeply cares for and has compassion for the socially vulnerable.
Action to Take: Serve the poor and powerless in society.

“Father God, thank You for allowing our church to minister to the homeless, day laborers, and Hispanic community. Please remember and bless all the volunteers who serve them. This week, significant cold weather is expected—please protect the homeless. May our church’s ministry to them be filled with Your mercy and compassion. May all glory be given to You through this work. Amen.”
